Lauren Brown

College of Veterinary Medicine
Graduate Student

Upon receiving an undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry, Lauren applied to the University of Florida because of its “laboratory, aquatic, and exotic animal programs, groundbreaking research and the exceptional faculty,” she said. “I have not been disappointed!” Her work at the Wildlife and Aquatic Veterinary Disease Laboratory led to the characterization of the deadly morbillivirus that caused the 2013 epizootic bottlenose dolphin event.

Geoffrey Zann

College of Veterinary Medicine
Fourth-year student

After serving on active duty with the U.S. Navy on the Somali Coast and in Afghanistan, Geoffrey is now leading research to help solve the most common orthopedic problem seen in veterinary practices around the world. His breakthrough on the motion of the kneecap after surgery in dogs earned him the highly competitive national 2015 Merial Veterinary Research Scholar Award. More importantly, it has the potential to impact the entire veterinary surgical community, and just might make life better for your canine friend.
